| Margaret Garcia-Couoh has been writing and publishing since 1985. She is the author of four chapbooks of poetry: Natural Menace (1996), Choosing Words, (2000), You in the House of My Heart (2001), When the Ground Tore Open (2004). She did 'performance poetry'--half stand-up comedy, half performance art from 1989-1995 in Santa Monica, Venice, East Hollywood and other southern Californian enclaves of art and culture. She is a staff writer for www.parentingsquad.com and www.wisebread.com. She puts out the zine Kotasi Review which showcases Plumas County writers and artists of an irreverent mindset. She co-facilitates the Ridge Writers Writing Group which meets twice a month in Crescent Mills and Westwood.
Margaret earned her Master's in Creative Writing at University of San Francisco where she studied fiction and poetry and the art of teaching writing in 1998, studying under independent press authors Adam Klein and Dareick Scott.
Margaret has taught at the University of San Francisco, Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme, and currently teaches for National and Kaplan Universities online. This spring she’ll be teaching Creative Writing Wednesday evenings for Feather River College at the Chester Campus (starts Feb 21).
She is currently working on a non-fiction parenting book and a collection of short stories. A sample of her parenting musings can be seen at www.writerchick-mama.blogspot.com.
The open stage will follow the featured sets where any aspiring poets, musicians, storytellers, actors or performers are encouraged to sign up at the door for a 5 to 7 minute time slot. All music performances must be acoustic only, with no electrical instruments or sound equipment allowed. Original work is encouraged.
Words and Music is an acoustic music and spoken word program which has been sponsored and facilitated by Plumas Arts since 1989.
