The mission of the Alliance is to promote standards of excellence in theater and theater education by disseminating quality practices in theater education; by connecting artists, educators, researchers and scholars with each other; and by providing opportunities for its membership to learn, exchange, expand, and diversify their work, the audience, and their perspectives. American Theater Arts for Youth For thirty-one years, American TAFY has presented professional, curriculum-related theater for children of all ages in theaters across the country. The organization performs its original musicals to over 1.4 million students annually, produces study guides for each of its productions, and offers workshops and residencies for artist-educators. Arts Education Partnership AEP, a national coalition of arts, education, business, philanthropic, and government organizations, works to promote the essential role of the arts in the learning and development of children and in the improvement of America's schools. The Partnership includes more than 140 organizations as well as state and local partnerships focused on influencing education policies and practices to promote quality arts education. Arts for Learning Arts for Learning is an online educational initiative dedicated to the proposition that all students can meet, and exceed, learning goals while at the same time develop a lifelong affinity for the arts. Supported on the national level by the likes of the American Express Foundation, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, and the New York City-based Starr Foundation, the organization's Web site is designed to K-12 teachers with community arts resources that can enhance their educational objectives. ArtsEdge http://artsedge.kennedy-center.org ArtsEdge, an online resource center funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and the U.S. Department of Education and administered by the Kennedy Center for the Arts, is designed to help artists, teachers, and students gain access to and share information, resources, and ideas that support the arts at the center of the K-12 curriculum through creative and appropriate uses of technology. Arts Extension Service Established in 1973 as a program of the Division of Continuing Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, AES is a national nonprofit arts service organization that strives to achieve access to and integration of the arts in local communities through continuing education for artists, arts organizations, and community leaders. California Arts Council The California Arts Council (CAC), a state agency, helps independent local groups develop their own arts programs; promotes employment of artists and those skilled in crafts in the public and private sector; provides for exhibition of artworks in public buildings throughout California; and enlists the aid of all state agencies in the task of ensuring the fullest expression of our artistic potential. California Art Project (TCAP) The California Arts Project (TCAP) is the state's subject matter project in Visual and Performing Arts. TCAP's central mission is to deepen teachers' knowledge of dance, music, theatre, and visual art, to enhance student success pre-kindergarten through post-secondary, and develop instructional strategies to support the Visual & Performing Arts Content Standards For California Public Schools, and the state VAPA Framework. TCAP's regional sites throughout the state offer a variety of professional development programs that work in partnership with schools, districts, county offices of education, and arts organizations, to ensure the highest quality arts instruction for all students California Department of Education Content Standards http://www.cde.ca.gov/shsd/arts/standards.htm This California Department of Education sight features Visual and Performing Arts Content Standards for California Public Schools. The standards describe what every student should know and be able to do in the visual and performing arts, prekindergarten through grade twelve in five strands. View and download the content standards in dance, music, theatre and/or visual art, developed for each grade level. These standards were adopted by the California State Board of Education on January 10, 2001. National Dance Education Organization NDEO is dedicated to promoting standards of excellence in dance education through the development of quality education in the art of dance through professional development, service and leadership. To that end, the organization holds public discussions and sponsors institutes, workshops, conferences, and a range programs. National Endowment for the Arts The National Endowment for the Arts provides national recognition and support to significant projects of artistic excellence, thus preserving and enhancing our nation's diverse cultural heritage. The Endowment was created by Congress and established in 1965 as an independent agency of the federal government. Teachers & Writers Collaborative Founded in 1967 by a group of writers and educators who believed that writers could make a unique contribution to the teaching of writing, T&W brings writers and educators together to explore the connections between writing and reading literature. VH1 Save the Music http://www.vh1.com/insidevh1/savethemus The VH1 Save the Music Foundation serves elementary school children of all backgrounds by working to restore music programs in our public schools. The foundation does not give grants to schools or school districts, but instead provides complete band, string, or keyboard programs to eligible schools. Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts Founded in 1981, the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts, a program of the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, the first and only national park for the performing arts, provides arts-in-education services for children ages 3-5 and their teachers and families through the disciplines of drama, music, and movement. Regional Programs of the Institute are located throughout the country.
